Notes from childbirth class...

We didn't exactly learn a whole lot we didn't already know last night. We got to watch the epidural video again (sadly, without the scared-to-death teen couple from the first viewing) and learned how to put a too-big diaper on a baby doll.

In other news, we are T-minus 5.5 weeks until the due date. I'm fully expecting that Janie's going to go into labor at a completely inconvenient time, like this Saturday while I'm at the 128th Fancy Farm Picnic or in a school board meeting and can't get out immediately.

In other, other news, I got the stereo and XM set up in the den last night, meaning the house is that much closer to completely finished. If I can get home at a decent hour and we can pick the place up a bit, I'll shoot photos tonight.

Childbirth Class Part 2

Tonight is the second half of our childbirth class. We're hoping against hope that that it's more informative than last week. Last week covered standard childbirth, some breathing techniques, and some intervention stuff like vacuum extractions. We got to watch the stock childbirth video. It's amusing to me that it's never attractive people who opt to have their birth video taped and shown to classes across the country. The woman in our childbirth video looked a bit like Molly Ringwald with a chromosome disorder. We, of course, sat in the back and snickered.

This week they're covering c-sections (yikes!) and anesthesia options (yum!). I'll report back should we learn anything interesting.

Yay Mexican food!

Last night, my sister, Lee, and my mom came over to help finish up the nursery.

I was working most of the afternoon, but when I got home, they were putting Eliza's clothes in her dresser and organizing her closet. I was a little annoyed because someone ripped my car XM antenna in half while I was working, but seeing the three of them organizing the nursery when I got home was pretty cool.

Afterwards, we went out for Mexican food at Los Amigos, where Janie had two tacos and a chicken enchilada and I had the most delicious plate of beef fajita nachos ever created.

I swear we'll take pictures of this stuff soon.

One more note about the doctor...

Because I have gestational diabetes, I get weekly biophysical profiles (ultrasounds) to check in on the baby. As of yesterday's appointment, the baby was weighing in at 7 lbs. 4 oz. (at 34 weeks!). You wouldn't like her when she's angry.

Tiny, tiny shirts...

So last night, Janie and I decided to get the nursery in order. We ended up having to move most of the furniture around to make room for both the changing table and a bookcase, since Eliza needs a place to both poop and read books.

Janie then spent the better part of an hour folding the clothes she washed yesterday, which resulted in a tearful moment when Janie noticed that Eliza's clothes only take up one corner of a laundry basket.

In other news, the doctor says everything is copacetic, so we're on for another appointment next week as the baby wait continues.

Pictures of said nursery, and the rest of the house, are coming soon.

Checkup time...

Janie's gone to the doctor for her weekly checkup, which means more ultrasound pics of Miss Eliza.

Hopefully, that's all it will mean, because we don't want her to get here this soon. Like a fine wine, she needs to age a bit more.

Welcome to the baby blog!

Welcome to the Eliza Jane Smith blog!

For those who may stumble upon us by accident, I'm Janie. My husband is Brian. In the past year and a half we met, got married and now we're expecting our first baby. Eliza Jane Smith is due September 8th.

We just moved to Brian's Western Kentucky hometown where we bought our first home. We couldn't be more thrilled and overwhelmed by all the changes.

If you're baby crazy, this is the place for you! I'll be posting baby news updates, Smith family updates, and the big notification when our baby girl finally arrives.

Last night, Brian's Dad and Stepmother brought us some baby presents. We got our swing, pack n play, and travel system. All in adorable Winnie the Pooh print. They also brought us a really neat rocking chair. It appears like any other arm chair, but it has rockers attached. It also has a really fluffy ottoman and should be fantastic for attending to the baby in the middle of the night.

Here are some pictures featuring Eliza's stand in, my teddy bear.

Brian has decided that he's in charge of the stroller:

I had no idea that pack n plays even existed until now. Such nifty and handy items:

Brian can have the stroller. This chair is mine!:

It's really starting to feel as though a baby's going to be living here soon. I'm doing our first loads of baby laundry this morning. I can't believe the tiny little owner of these clothes is going to live here at some point in the next six weeks.
